Wow! This inexpensive, slim book of less than 150 pages--easily carried along-- manages to cover the highlights of the entire JMT without being superficial. It even covers East and West approach trails and surrounds. The most outstanding feature by far is the series of wonderful hand drawn and colored relief maps of the JMT and nearby lake basins (and some areas a fair distance from it such as Emmigrant or Hoover Wilderness). Trail milages are given and elevations graphed for route planning. I'm an angler and so appreciate the commentary and map notations about the fishing along the trail and in nearby lakes. The photos are old style black and white but there are plenty of them and they give a good impression of what to expect along various segments of the trail. I've already been there and done most of the trail and am still glad I discovered this gem. Despite a few rough edges in the typesetting, you couldn't beat this concise, well illustrated, and useful little book as a place to start planning a trip along the JMT.

To cite Meriwether Lewis as Editor of this and other volumes of this University of Nebraska Press edition, edited by Moulton, is an injustice to Moulton. Lewis' efforts never got beyond a pros- pectus. Further, to list Clark as merely a con- tributor, is unforgiveable.

I used every section of the book as I travelled without having a translator by my side! Having never spoken French in my life, I was a little afraid no one would understand me. Luckily the Just Enough French book provides pronunciation directly under the phrase. It was easy for people to understand what I wanted. Another feature of Just Enough French that I love is the "what they will probably say" part. I was always prepared for the follow-up on my questions via this sub-section. Otherwise, I would have never understood the directions or information the Parisians were sharing! Thanks to Just Enough French, I survived a week long journey in France, made good friends, and learned part of the French language. The taste of language that this book provided has encouraged me to further delve into the French language. I highly suggest it for the beginning French student or traveller. Awesome, awesome, awesome book!

Justice Brennan spent more than thirty years on the Supreme Court. He joined the Warren Court, decried by some as "liberal activists". He served with distinction there, on the Burger Court, and finally the Rehnquist Court (which some decry as reactionary conservative activists). On all three, he regularly was the man who spoke for the Court on many of the important issues of the times.

The enduring question is "How could this man mold and shape such disparate groups of Justices to the point where he wrote some of the most significant majority opinions of our time?" With typical modesty, Justice Brennan said, that he learned early how to count to five.

Rod Clark does a masterful job in his chronicle of the life, the influences, the context and the enduring legacy of Justice Brennan. He was a trail blazer in a host of areas of jurisprudence: First Amendment law, criminal defendants rights and women's issues. He has authored dozens of opinions affirming rights which we now take for granted. All this from the man who said "I don't expect to distinguish myself on the Court".

A true American original. The kind of person who helped make this country great. A wonderful and easy read.

This is an excellent hiking guide to Baxter State Park. It includes history and background of the park as well as a comprehensive guide to all the trails and peaks. It also comes with the best pocket map to the park. I only wish Mr. Clark had included a little more commentary and personality (some sneaks in). He is obviously a passionate expert and a little more depth would be welcome even though this is essentially a trail guide.

The authors are very tuned into the needs of both teachers and students. This book contains well organized, easy to use internet sites that teachers can use to easily build lesson plans or thematic units knowing that the students will have a definitive research site to access the knowledge required to complete the task. The brief, concise summaries provided for each site provide young readers with the ability to select sites that match their interests.

The sites are more than just entertaining, they hit the mark. They match the interests of students and the teaching content that meets curriculum needs. The "Fun and Creative Things to Do On and Off the Internet" teaches children to incorporate the Internet into a larger project rather than viewing the Internet as an all-inclusive one-stop process.

Children, as well as adults, can get lost "searching" for information on the net. This books guides novice young internet users to age appropriate, useful and entertaining safe sites.

Kids.exploring.on.the.net is masterfully organized allowing children to easily find and interpret the information presented. This book is a great for kids, parents and teachers alike.

This book provides readers of all ages with a wonderful look into the life of Kofi, a "magician" from Bonwire. The children I have shared it with love it, and Kofi's magic serves as a reminder for all of us of the power of imagination. The photographs are rich, and the text is soothing. Look no further for a book that will put you in the mood to daydream.

I just noticed that this book is out of print. This is unfortunate because this is the only book of many that I've read that actually develops a philosophy of language and of theology that allows both language and philosophy to be possible, logical, and understandable. All others fail on one or more of these points; Clark avoids all of the pitfalls.
